πŸ’† Massage + Bodywork

Our bodies are miraculous: continuously adaptable, constantly self-regenerative, and immensely intelligent.

In response to our physical, spiritual, and psychoemotional environments they shape themselves to best serve us moment to moment. As a result, patterns of tension and constriction can develop that create turbulence in the easeful expression of circulation, rejuvenation, and vitality that is our natural state.

I work with people to explore their bodies curiously and to identify the patterns that have developed, then bring a cultivated attention and an intuitive hybrid technique drawing from Thai massage, Esalen massage, deep tissue and somatic approaches to create some wiggle room in the chains of tension to let the body do what it does best: regenerate!

Testimonials

Aryeh:

"with james, you get more than massage. you get contact with one of the most uniquely soothing stable nervous systems ive ever encountered. He is a gentle viking with the proportions, skills, and vibes to crumple your towers of tension. he will row your boat gently down the stream. easy to talk to, easy on the nose, easy on the eyes. i feel that you should pay him to massage you."

Lisa:

"I'm really grateful to James for holding so much space for me at a moment when I was struggling, and creating a mindful, comfortable and beautiful environment in which I could embrace, explore and process any feelings that came up during the massage. I think it made a substantial contribution to both my body feeling less tense, understanding where I stored certain emotions in my body and feeling mentally more attuned and peaceful. Thank you so much James!"

Marie:

"Once when I was on mdma, a dog was freaking out. Two of the humans were swordfighting and this was Quite Worrisome. I put my hand on the dog, and something about my loving, calm drugged-up being immediately calmed the dog, in a way that would *not* have happened if I was carrying tension and fear. (This is what people mean when they say "coregulation" I think)

Anyway I got a 15-minute massage from James Risberg and, as far as I can tell, he has mastered exactly this skill. Highly recommend"

Brian:

"I really loved receiving a Ketamine massage from James. The medicine allowed my body to relax and receive the bodywork in a deeper way, while I processed recent events from a calmer place. I emerged refreshed and ready for life."

Ophira:

"when I first met you, you gave me a hug, and all you really did was hold me tightly and firmly and put your hands and arms around me, but it felt like… all of my defences just came down and I felt so completely comfortable and relaxed. It was like sorcery. You hear about nervous system co-regulation, but I'd never actually experienced it, no less in such a poignant and instant way. It made me feel like I immediately wanted to learn what you know how to do, so that I could take it out into the world and do this not only for myself, but for other people. Everyone should get to experience this."
